STUDIO

Karl Geckler works as an international architect and sculptor based in Chicago, Illinois. His oeuvre twists the imagination through metal, wood, and stone sculptures. Geckler graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. He studied stone carving in Pietrasanta, Italy and tool/die welding in Chicago. Geckler has taught hundreds of students the art of stone carving at Gallery 37 in Chicago and at the Marble Carving Studio in Pietrasanta, Italy. His sculpture and furniture designs encapsulate the juxtaposition of twisting metal, wood, and stone into fluid context. Geckler’s inner vision remains the core structure of each sculpture—representing liquid music in sculpture form. His ideas respond to the realities, opportunities, and limitations of the material at hand. Bold and organic movement energizes each piece into frozen music. Geckler’s work breathes an abstract flow of trusting serendipity and listening to the lingering answers in the subconscious. Daring, unafraid, and charismatic, his sculpture designs explore the boundaries of the material at hand. Mainly using stone and bronze, Geckler melts poetic music into mind shifting sculptures. He re-creates the boundaries of the material through embracing a sacred connection with changing negative and positive space. Geckler remains translucent as his artwork bends time—changing how one sees the limitations of metal and bronze. Geckler twists the viewer’s mind through a combination of geometric, biomorphic shapes, and angelic organic sculptures. His exploration ignites an internal fire for creating visionary, daring, ever changing artwork. Geckler’s main body of work, sculpture and furniture designs represent original vision based on discovery. His work parallels the immediate attention of organic shape with the immovable. Geckler has pieces in private collections in Europe and the U.S.
